The Witches of Macbeth
Shakespeare’s Macbeth was written to please the new king of the time. King James VI had been caught in North Berwick storm, so fierce he believed to be the result of witchcraft. He became obsessed with the subject, writing his own book, Demonology, and instigating witch hunts across the country.
Many places across Scotland are associated with Macbeth. Macbeth’s hillock in Forres is said to be where Mabeth met the witches for the first time, although nearby Knock of Alves also claims this honour!
